Chelsea Music Festival 2019 - Visual Arts News & Hosting Opportunities

The Chelsea Music Festival 2019 Visual Artist-in-Residence is Julianne Swartz! Swartz’s artwork will be exhibited at new Festival venue partner, High Line Nine, in a month-long exhibition that will feature hand-made glass and ceramic forms that act as instruments and generate unique acoustic tones. The sculptures will be activated live on Thursday, June 13th, in which Swartz will be joined by Chelsea Music Festival musicians in a collaborative performance.

The Festival is thrilled to announce new partnership with the gallery Hauser & Wirth, which will feature renowned artist Lorna Simpson in an exhibition entitled Darkening, which runs from April 25 through July 26th. The Festival will commission Jessica Mays (as a part of our 2019 Composers-in-Commission | The Clara Schumann Ten) to create a composition inspired by Lorna Simpson’s exhibition. The World Premiere is Friday, June 14th at Hauser & Wirth, where audience members will be able to experience the music in the space surrounded by the artwork that inspired it.

Interested in hosting an artist or staff member? The Festival brings in artists and team members from all over the world, and Hosts with spare rooms in early June provide invaluable support.
