Nostalgiacore: Lunchbox Treasures from the 90s featuring the artwork of Kaitlyn Hay '10 at Your Tiny Art Gallery in College Park, MD

This series of artworks was inspired by several snacks that if you were a kid growing up in NY in the 90s, the person stuffing your monogrammed L.L. Bean lunch bag might have included on rotation. The Covid pandemic brought about the trend of nostaligacore in food: a desire for the comfort foods of our youth to help us cope with the unknowns of the pandemic. I was inspired by not only the visceral memories of scraping the red plastic stick loaded with “cheese” across the salty rectangle of cracker, or the chewy treat and plaything that was String Thing, but also the packaging and marketing of these snacks. Pop Art’s high-contrast, over-saturated, post-war consumer culture imagery was a major influence on the creation of these watercolors and sculpture. Note: you've seen Little Free Libraries? This "show" is at that scale. Opening and remarks on April 10th at 1pm.
