Dear Friend,
I’d like to invite you to a beautiful upcoming Spring concert by Melodia Women’s Choir: ‘A Tapestry of Song,’ on Saturday, May 4 at 7:30 pm, at Holy Apostles, in Chelsea at 296 Ninth Ave (near 28th St). With a compelling combination of rich musical threads, this unique concert weaves together soul-stirring harmonies and lush, textured music that will lift your spirits.
Conducted by Artistic Director Cynthia Powell, the concert features the World Premiere of ‘Your Children’ by Emily Mason, based on a setting of a poem by Khalil Gibran. Mason is the 11th composed commissioned by Melodia as part of its Women Composers’ Competition, a remarkable milestone for the Choir’s 20th year.
Also being performed is Gustav Holst’s ‘Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda,’ in celebration of the composer’s 150th birthday, and ‘Mass in A Major, Op. 126’ by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger, a work of rich harmonies and profound spiritual depth. The choir will be joined by instrumentalists Janet Sora Chung on piano and organ, Rita Costanzi on harp, and Jules Biber on cello. A reception will follow the concert.
