The New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra welcomes back conductor Alex Wen for a program featuring Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2, innovative for its time in its thematic development and instrumentation. Composer Sulho Ranto said of the symphony, “There is something about this music—at least for us—that leads us to ecstasy; almost like a shaman with his magic drum.” The concert will open with Beethoven’s stirring Egmont Overture, and award-winning cellist Sarah Song will be the soloist for Elgar’s ever-popular Cello Concerto. Ruth Singleton '82 is a violinist and board member.
