"Odyssea" at the Edinburgh Fringe – and online!

A photo of a small boat sculpture and a blue arm 'walking' in the boat.

When Odyssea, a curious sea traveler, is washed up on shore after a storm, she encounters the flora and fauna of a fantastical realm. Enjoy this epic dance-on-film, performed only with hands: live at the Edinburgh Fringe Fest, July 31 – August 4, or online on-demand, August 2nd – August 31st!

Director/choreographer Mariah Steele '06 (Artistic Director of Quicksilver Dance) performs this one-woman dance with only her hands to match the scale of the scenery by mixed-media 3D artist Raphaela McCormack. Set to original music by Yoshiko Arahata and with videography by Hans Rinderknecht '07 (Technical Director of Quicksilver Dance). Additional Performances are by Lia Nelson and Anna Remus.

Odyssea’s journey of overcoming hardships by building relationships and diplomacy will inspire audiences of all ages – and provide a feminist version of the traditional concept of an odyssey. With her playful and poignant tale, Odyssea's trek across biomorphic landscapes promises to make the familiar feel excitingly unfamiliar again.

Winner – Best Experimental Film: Toronto Indie Filmmakers Festival, April 2024
