The Capital Hearings, a D.C. based cross-genre a cappella group which includes Ryan McCarty ‘14 and Regina Burgher ‘14, are thrilled to announce the return of their Songwriter Showcase, honoring D.C.'s thriving music scene by introducing exciting local artists to new audiences. This year’s powerful collaboration features dynamic singer-songwriter Kemi Adegoroye ‘13. It includes back-to-back performances of an original song by Kemi, followed by the world premiere of a new version arranged for a cappella ensemble. The program will also feature a vibrant variety of rock, jazz, R&B, pop, and more, as both artists share the stage in a celebration of songwriting. ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Our genre-busting mission unites complex jazz, transcendent global and classical music, and dynamic modern hits into a thought-provoking message, breaking down barriers and prompting our audiences to build new bridges of understanding. Kemi Adegoroye is a singer-songwriter, actress, and producer based in the D.C. Metro Area. Her artistic career spans multiple disciplines and genres, from jazz and soul to musical theatre and pop. With versatile vocals that range from dulcet to thundering, her performances have been likened to those of Aretha Franklin, Sarah Vaughan, and Roberta Flack. She performs regularly as a solo artist and as the frontwoman of DC-based jazz and soul band Terra Firma. Her recently released debut EP, For the Record, is her first album of original music, and also earned Kemi a spot as a 2022 Wammie Awards Finalist.
