Skylight Theatre Company and Playwrights Arena are proud to present the world premiere of "Lavender Men" by Roger Q. Mason '08. Directed by Lovell Holder '09, the play stars Mason and Pete Ploszek '09 in a historical fantasia for the ages. This genre-defying play spotlights Taffeta (Mason), a self-proclaimed "fabulous queer creation of color," as she invades the private lives of Abraham Lincoln (Ploszek) and his legal assistant Elmer (Alex Esola, NYU '15) in order to confront issues of LGBTQ visibility and inclusion that still challenge us today. Following a sold-out "work-in-progress" reading on Broadway at Circle in the Square in Fall 2019, the play was named to the prestigious Kilroy List, the annual announcement of America's best unproduced plays by underrepresented writers. The premiere was halted by the pandemic, but Taffeta has returned stronger than ever, ready to take the world by storm. Live performances begin in LA on August 6, and the play will be streamed virtually beginning August 20, so wherever you are in the world, you're just a few clicks away from welcoming Taffeta into your home.
