Bio

Cooper Young is a poet, dancer, and mathematician who hails from Santa Cruz, California. He graduated Princeton in 2020 with a concentration in mathematics and certificates in creative writing and dance. During his time at Princeton, he was the recipient of the Ward Prize, Morris W. Croll Poetry Prize, and the Alex Adam Award. These, along with other grants, provided him the opportunity to visit Hawaii, Thailand, and Japan, and to document his travels through poetry. Due to the generosity of the Lewis Center for the Arts and the Adam family, he spent one summer following the path of Matsuo Bashō through Japan and writing a travel sketch, which culminated in the chapbook Sacred Grounds, published by Finishing Line Press in 2020. Cooper is currently pursuing his PhD in mathematics at UC Santa Barbara.
