Bio
D. M. Spratley is a writer and intersectional equity strategist and educator. Her writing has appeared in Poetry, 32 Poems, Shenandoah, and the Lambda Literary Poetry Spotlight, among other journals. She has received awards and honors from Princeton University, Sundress Publications, Rattle, and the North Carolina Arts Council. D. M. was the 2022 Visiting Writer in Residence at Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Founder and Principal of Maypop Creativity Consulting, D. M. provides people and organizations with intersectional equity consulting, writing and creativity coaching, team-building retreats, and writing and creativity workshops.
Prior to launching Maypop, D. M. led equity and social justice change work as a racial equity consultant, Chief Equity Learning Officer for the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, Director of Programs and Strategy for Village of Wisdom, and as an AmeriCorps Program Director. She has supported organizations and communities across the country in strategic social change design, racial justice learning, and the integration of feminist, anti-racist, intersectional values with concrete policy and practice.
Since 2009, D. M. has skated and coached with Star City Roller Girls, Carolina Roller Derby All-Stars, Bull City Roller Derby, and Team North Carolina.
D. M. is currently at work on a full-length poetry manuscript and a fiction project.
