Me in 50 words or less: I’m a creative producer and new work dramaturg, which is a fancy word for “editor of all things performing arts” (theater, music, opera, you name it). I help artists build brain-bending live performances that defy categorization.

Bio

Julia Bumke (she/her) is a creative producer and dramaturg who collaborates with composers, librettists, and playwrights at all stages of their careers. She is the Executive Producer of AMOC*, an American artist collective and production company that champions boundary-pushing work across, music, theater, dance, and opera. Prior to her role with AMOC*, she was the Executive Director and in-house producer for JACK Music Inc., the nonprofit contemporary music organization behind JACK Quartet.

Recent/upcoming work includes premieres and projects in development with Penn Live Arts, 92NY, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Oberlin Conservatory, Opera Philadelphia, Curtis Institute of Music, and PEAK Performances at Montclair State University. She also served as a dramaturg and producer on projects with AMOC* since 2022, including new works by Anthony Cheung, Doug Balliett, and Keir GoGwilt. She was the Festival Producer for the 2022 Look + Listen Festival in Brooklyn, and served as the interim Artistic Director at Passage Theatre Company in Trenton, NJ.

Julia has held administrative positions with Sō Percussion, PlayPenn, The Wilma Theater, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and the American Repertory Theater; and has consulted for numerous nonprofits on fundraising campaigns, grant writing, and strategic planning. She served on grant panels for the NY State Council for the Arts, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and New Music USA’s Creator Fund.

Julia received her A.B. from Princeton, and a dual M.F.A. degree in Dramaturgy from A.R.T.’s Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard and the Moscow Art Theater.
