Me in 50 words or less:
I'm a writer of short stories, essays, and the occasional novel. I love retellings of all kinds, but most particularly of historical events, especially if they involve disaster or Japan (or both). I also teach fiction writing and take on occasional editing or manuscript consultation gigs.

Bio

Naomi J. Williams is the author of the novel Landfalls (FSG 2015), long-listed for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize. Her short fiction and essays have appeared in numerous venues, including Lit Hub, Electric Literature, A Public Space, and One Story, and have garnered a Pushcart Prize and Best American honorable mention. Educated at Princeton, Stanford, and UC Davis, she teaches fiction for the low-residency MFA program at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. Born and partly raised in Japan, Williams now lives in Sacramento, California. She recently completed a short story collection inspired by old Japanese ghost stories and is working on a novel based on the life of Japanese poet Yosano Akiko.
