Bio:

Tula B. Strong is a Greater LA-based choreographer focused on bridging experimental performance with conversations surrounding the everyday experiences of BIPOC individuals, faith, Jesus, and wellness. She creates live and filmed performances that blur the boundaries between concert dance & musical theater. Her work has been presented at venues such as Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, CA, Glorya Kaufman Theater at UCLA, and Northwestern University’s Shirley Welsh Ryan Opera Theater. Her newest work, TESTIMONY, is a dance & music experience centered around a community of Afro-Diasporic women, their journeys of trauma, healing & faith. You can follow her artistic journey on this show and others via social @tula.b.strong, Tula B. Strong Choreography on YouTube, or her website at www.tulabstrong.com

As an arts professional, Tula is passionate about connecting performing arts organizations with BIPOC and diverse socioeconomic populations. She has served arts organizations such as CONTRA-TIEMPO Urban Latin Dance Company, By Jade Charon Company, Dan Froot & Co., and the UCLA Department of World Arts & Cultures/ Dance in the production, public relations, education programming, and arts administrative capacities. Within the age of COVID, she has helped produce the UCLA WACD 2020 Faculty Virtual Concert — featuring works by guest choreographers Jackie Lopez, Milka Djordjevich, Faye Driscoll, and Lisa Parra — and the online premiere of emerging choreographer, Jade Charon’s, newest dance film, “Gold.” Tula has received her MFA in Dance from UCLA, her Masters in Educational Studies from Loyola Marymount University, and Bachelors from Princeton University.
