Me in 50 words or less: I'm a composer, pianist, and the director of ShoutHouse, a cross-genre collective of hip-hop, jazz, and classical musicians based in Brooklyn. I write and arrange music for classical concerts, perform new and old music on piano with instrumentalists and improvisers, and curate narrative artistic experiences that enable musicians from different genre backgrounds to perform in the same space.

Bio
Will Healy is a composer, pianist, and improviser whose work spans classical concert halls, jazz clubs, and hip-hop shows in New York City. A recipient of the 2023 Leonard Bernstein Prize from the ASCAP Foundation, he has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and National Sawdust, with compositions featured by the Minnesota Orchestra, Contemporaneous, and Mivos Quartet. His arranging credits include Kanye West, the New York Philharmonic, and the Albany Symphony.
Healy is the founder and artistic director of ShoutHouse, a collective of hip-hop, jazz, and classical musicians. Described by poet-laureate Billy Collins as “sweetly and smartly off the rails,” ShoutHouse has premiered over 50 works. Their album Cityscapes (New Amsterdam Records) blends post-rock, art-rock, and indie classical.
His 30-minute work Passages (2023), a collaboration with poet/emcee spiritchild, explores language and communication through wind ensemble and multi-genre soloists. It won the 2024 Beeler Prize, praised as “a massive contribution to the repertoire.”
As a pianist, Healy has performed solo recitals in the U.S. and abroad, premiering new works and performing J.S. Bach extensively. He plays with Pathos Trio and Upstream (a duo with violinist George Meyer) and is composer-in-residence for Midsummer’s Music.
Healy’s awards include the Charles Ives Scholarship, two ASCAP Morton Gould Awards, and a J-Fund commission. He has composed for the New York Philharmonic and holds an M.M. from Juilliard. He is a Yamaha Artist and a PhD candidate in Composition at Princeton University.
