Banjo Album Release - "Impromptu Sessions No. 1: Brittany Haas"

“Impromptu Sessions No. 1: Brittany Haas" is out now on Padiddle Records. It features Brittany Haas '09 on the clawhammer banjo, and Paul Kowert (Punch Brothers) and Mike Gaisbacher on double basses. This is the first installment of a series; No. 2 is Dominick Leslie & Ric Robertson's "Trust In Most”. We’re excited to share this music with you. Both albums are available digitally to purchase on the Padiddle Records store www.padiddlerecords.com/store and on Bandcamp, and to stream on all of the streaming services.

A little more about the album:

This record came out of a jam one night that felt nice. I got excited and wanted to capture it, so I called Critter and had him come over for dinner and then set up mics in the dining room of Mike’s empty new house. We moved a couple mattresses in around us and tracked for three nights.

These tunes are ones I’ve loved for a long time, and it felt freeing to play them on the banjo. The two basses made the old melodies seem wide open and I think Paul and Mike’s personalities shine through. Hope you have fun listening, like we did playing.

A note about the cover:

Tom Rozum’s cover art is based on the mo’ai statues made by the Rapa Nui people on Easter Island. The juxtaposition of these monolithic figures with the instruments on the recording - banjo from West Africa and double bass from Europe - brings together different corners of the world into an imagined history of shared music.
