Ann Tashi Slater '84 talks with Julia Alvarez
/“The way life is shot through with loss and gain is the painful beauty of being alive,” says Dominican-American author Julia Alvarez, one of America’s most celebrated Latina authors. In a new interview about bardo and the art of living, Ann Tashi Slater spoke with Alvarez about existing in a liminal space between the US and the Dominican Republic and journeying through a health crisis. Alvarez writes poetry, nonfiction, YA, and children’s books, and is the recipient of many awards and honors. On September 17, PBS premiered “Julia Alvarez: A Life Reimagined,” an American Masters documentary chronicling how Alvarez “burst onto the literary scene and blazed a trail for a generation of Latino authors” (streaming until 10/30).
