IVA Releases New Music

On September 16th, IVA released her new record “Nobody’s Woman.” The single, “Run”, is already making a breakthrough on Spotify at 63k streams and up to 10k monthly listeners. The four-song EP features IVA’s solo songwriting as well as a co-write with Nashville luminary Kim Richey. "Run" has already garnered stunning reviews with its streaming release. The record was produced at Philadelphia’s legendary Turtle Studios by Ross Bellenoit and features IVA’s band The New Young.

Aaron Landsman has co-authored a book about the performance of democracy, and about how we can engage with communities outside our own in a way that honors difference, adventure, curiosity and creativity. The City We Make Together, published by The University of Iowa Press' Humanities and Public Life series, chronicles the creation and production of a participatory theater work called City Council Meeting in five US cities. It offers approaches to documentary and ethnographic performance-making, stories from the field, and a path toward a curriculum for civic engagement. In this particularly fractured political moment, The City We Make Together holds hope for democracy in local political action.

"Convincing," a poem by Jeanette Beebe '14, was published in the latest issue of Salamander, a print + web literary journal based in Boston. The poem explores what it means to be a journalist. It begins with an expert pigeon trainer who asked whether we can “compare having a poem with having a baby,” inspired by the idea that “a hen is only an egg’s way of making another egg.” Sixth Finch, an online literary journal, also published a poem by Beebe this spring: "Tremolo." There are birds in this poem, too.

New Album, "Cars On Fire," by Blanker (John Norwood, '06) Out Now!

"Cars on Fire" is the fourth album by Blanker, the solo project of John Norwood (former PUJE guitarist and Upstate Escape frontman). In putting together this latest release, Norwood focused on distilling a wide range of demos written over the past year and a half into seven tracks of alt-rock that are equal parts rowdy and reflective. Given ongoing pandemic restrictions, the album was written, performed, and produced entirely by Norwood from his apartment in Brooklyn. As always, all Blanker projects are available free of charge.
